Position Vacant: Commodity Account Manager

Role Description:

The Commodity Account Manager is a new role necessitated by the company’s growth. You will join a small, focused team in the agricultural commodities sector and will assist the Managing Director in developing a growing customer base both in Australia and overseas as well as supporting, and in some cases leading, business development activities in Asia, Middle East and Overseas.

On a day to day basis you will assist with building our market intelligence and analysis capability thereby supporting the key revenue activities of the company. Given the size of the Basis Commodities group and the breadth of our activities, the role will be fluid. The successful applicant should expect to be given a broad exposure to all aspects of an international broking/trading business with scope to grow in commodity merchandising, trading, ocean freight and operations in a manner not afforded by bigger more compartmentalised organisations. You should be comfortable with a small company culture and the opportunities and flexibility that come with it.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Continue to build our market intelligence and price discovery capability in grains and pulses within Australia and overseas including liaison with our research and broking network.
  • Coordinate with Australian and overseas originators with respect to FOB and CFR pricing suppliers, crop quality and logistics information.
  • Regular report writing and ongoing engagement with our clients in Australia and overseas.
  • Liaison with our social media specialist.
  • Provide Account Management support in consultation with the Managing Director including pricing, negotiation, contracting, sales and purchase support.

Business Development:

  • Assist the team optimise current clientele / projects / pipeline and look to bring in new revenue.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities to diversify the revenue base.
  • Identify and help implement origination and sales opportunities in Australia and in support of our Dubai office.
  • Assist strategy development and execution.

Skills and experience:

  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication – languages a benefit
  • Organised and able to meet deadlines
  • Previous experience in a similar role/industry will be well regarded.
  • There will be some psychometric testing and project based interview work.
